I spent some time designing the layout of the game world. It was surprisingly time consuming, since I want it to be just right. I haven't finished it completely yet.
Most gamers who consider themselves "hardcore" actually pay no attention to indie games. The phrase has lost all meaning... some people think they're hard core just because they play Halo. When in reality, they're just a dumbass.
You could go by play time, but I actually spend a very small amount of time per week playing video games nowadays... I just don't have time.
To me, "hardcore" really just means that you care deeply about the medium. It's not just entertainment, it's something more, you know?
Anyway, Glum Buster is basically a level-based puzzle platformer, that has an extremely rich atmosphere, beautiful artwork, and unusual puzzle mechanics. I highly recommend it. I liked the game so much, I gave the guy $15 for whatever charityware cause he's donating it to.
I can't say I understand fully, seeing as I'm only vaguely connected to the medium, but I getcha. Oh, puzzles; I'll make sure to try GB next time I'm home.
Style reminds me of Knytt. Ever try it?
ReplyDeleteOf course! It's actually one of my favorite games of all time... I get chills every time I play it.
ReplyDeleteDid I ever tell you to play Glum Buster? Because that's another great "moody" indie game... and I think it's not as well known as it should be.
I'm pretty sure that answer was a given. Can't remember how far I got; it was a while ago.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of Glum Buster (obviously) but I'll give it a try the next time I get my hands on a PC (argh, Macs). Description?
Obviously I'm not a hardcore gamer. Though I'm not/embarrassed to say I've kept Nethack on me since I was 13...
